Aquatic species that swim after their prey are rare. The other family is terrestrial, with bodies similar to badgers, aardvarks or weasels. All species have poor eyesight and are guided mainly by the touch of their soft beaks, which have acquired a wide diversity of shapes depending on their diets. There are also some species similar to tamanduas, which consume termites - cockroaches, destroying their nests with large claws. Most species retain their dewclaws, and have developed vibrant colors (especially black, white, yellow and orange), to warn predators to stay away.
